As soon as you take a Windows Server and turn it into a RDSH server to be used within an RDS environment, the way that applications work on that server changes significantly. Whenever programs and apps are installed onto that RDSH, it first needs to be put into a special Install Mode. Placing the server into Install Mode prior to launching the program installer is important to make sure that applications are going to be installed in a way that will allow multiple users to run them simultaneously. Remember, our RDSH servers will be hosting multiple user sessions, probably dozens of them.

Select Remote Desktop Services, and then click Next, and then Next on the Remote Desktop Services page. Select Remote Desktop Licensing, and then click Next. Configure the domain - select Configure a discovery scope for this license server, click This domain, and then click Next. Activate the license server. Using Install Mode is so important to applications working properly on an RDSH that you really should not install any programs onto the server before you turn it into an RDSH. Once that role has been established, then apps can be safely installed, as long as you are using Install Mode. Programs installed prior to converting that server into an RDSH may not work properly, and you might have to uninstall and reinstall them. There are a couple of different ways that Install Mode can be invoked during a program installation; let's take a look at both of them.

Installing Remote Desktop Services 2016 Movie
Recently we've come across a client that was victim to Ransomware (see our previous blog post about Ransomware Remediation here) and needed to make their Windows Server 2016 Domain Controller an available Terminal Server. While we don't recommend utilizing a Domain Controller as a Terminal Server for a myriad of reasons, as all things in the IT field go, it's sometimes necessary to improvise.
The following guide assumes an existing Domain Controller is in place:
1.) Open Server Manager and open the Add Roles and Features Wizard
2.) Select Remote Desktop Services Installation
3.) Select Standard Deployment (if applicable)
4:) Select Session Based Desktop Deployment (if applicable)
Smart cleaner apk.
5:) Install the following RDS Role Services to the Server:
Remote Desktop Connection Broker
Remote Desktop Web Access
Remote Desktop Host
6:) Confirm installation and deploy
